EN→NLThe Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is by far the best Samsung Chromebook to buy for most people out there. It’s true the original Galaxy Chromebook still beats it in some key specs, but those are likely targeted at a pretty small niche of power users. The core i3/128GB/8GB model is probably the best way to go for most people. Extra RAM and storage are particularly useful if you want to use the Chromebook 2 as your primary machine at work. If you’re going to buy this Chromebook, I would recommend waiting for one of Samsung’s relatively common sales. I was able to snag the Core i3/128GB/8GB model for just over $400 after tax. At that price, this is not only the best value for a Samsung Chromebook, but the best value in the Chromebook space as a whole.

EN→NLIntroduced at CES 2021, the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is an anomoly in a bunch of ways. For one, it has a ‘2’ in the name while not exactly improving on its predecessor. It has a processor that, in just a few months, will feel a tad bit dated. It lacks features that its contemporaries possess and yet it still costs more than those other Chromebooks. In fact, there are very few ways in which this Chromebook is superlative, yet there’s actually some charm to it at the same time. With perhaps a different name and a slightly lower price I’d be inclined to call it a good purchase, but as it stands, I’m a bit back-and-forth on how I feel about this particular Chromebook. So, let’s talk about it.

This is the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2, a very interesting sequel to one of the most opulent products of 2020. I mean, it was hard not to award the first Galaxy Chromebook as best of CES for its sleek design, powerful internals, S Pen support and a 4K OLED display, but it wasn't perfect. It obviously didn’t come cheap, and battery life was sort of a problem, which made the choice for ChromeOS be kind of a deal breaker. It’s always been this topic of debate if buying an expensive Chromebook is worth the money, and the reason why I drifted more to the Galaxy Book Flex, which was almost the same machine, but running Windows.

The company made smart choices about what to prioritize with this model, making it a computer that should satisfy a much wider swath of potential customers. I definitely wish the battery lasted an hour or two longer, but that’s my only major complaint. Besides that, it’s about as good of a premium Chromebook as you could ask for in 2021. There are much cheaper Chromebooks out there, but if you don’t mind spending extra for a great screen, sound and industrial design, the Galaxy Chromebook should be on your list.

But after last year’s Samsung Galaxy Chromebook couldn’t even make it five hours on a charge, my expectations were on the floor. I performed my first battery test on this year’s sequel in an optimistic but nervous state. Finally, several months after the Chromebook 2 was announced, I’m breathing a sigh of relief. To repeat: the battery life is not a disaster, folks. The battery life is fine.

this is a midrange reboot of the original, and from one point of view it’s a much more reasonable computer. After all, Chromebooks have built a big part of their success on being the better value, and by eliminating all of the sweeteners from last year’s thousand-dollar model, Samsung has dropped the entry price of the Chromebook 2 to a more palatable $549 … or in the case of my higher-end review unit, a buck short of $700. Geïntegreerde GPU (GT2, 24 EU's) die je terugvindt in sommige CPU-modellen van de Kaby Lake-refresh (15-Watt ULV-serie). Technisch identiek aan de vorige Kaby Lake-GPU genaamd HD Graphics 620.
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

i3-10110U: Comet Lake gebaseerde low power dual-core processor (technisch identiek aan Whiskey Lake en nog steeds geproduceerd in 14nm++). De CPU cores kunnen klokken tussen 2.1 en 4.1 GHz (alle 4 cores 3.7 GHz max.) met HyperThreading (4 threads). De geïntegreerde geheugencontroller ondersteunt DDR4-2666 en met behulp van cTDP up/down kunnen de prestaties door de OEM worden aangepast (10 - 25 Watt mogelijk, 15W standaard). De geïntegreerde grafische kaart klokken van 300 - 1000 MHz en biedt slechts 23 in plaats van 24 CU's.
