Als je geen behoefte hebt aan heftige games en ook niet het geld hebt voor een S8 of Note 8 toestel, dan is de Samsung Galaxy A8 een heel fijn alternatief. Op een flink aantal fronten wordt bespaard, maar in grote lijnen komt de beleving qua features toch wel heel dicht bij de vlaggenschepen. Dat terwijl je toch enkele honderden euro’s in de zak houdt.

De Samsung Galaxy A8 is geen bijzondere smartphone. Voor een midrange toestel hoeft dat ook niet echt, want je betaalt immers niet net zo veel als voor een vlaggenschip. Maar voor ongeveer 500 euro kunnen we het apparaat niet aanbevelen. En dat komt niet alleen door de OnePlus 5T, die voor hetzelfde bedrag kan worden gekocht, veel betere specs aanbiedt en heel veel mogelijkheden heeft. Het is namelijk ook zo dat de Galaxy S8 goedkoper wordt en dit prijspunt begint te naderen, waardoor je je af kunt vragen wat de meerwaarde van de A8 is.

Wie een Samsung-smartphone zoekt, maar de beste toestellen toch wat te duur vindt, kan bij de A8 terecht. Toch is dit toestel met 500 euro ook te hoog geprijsd voor wat je ervoor terugkrijgt. Zie je echter een interessante aanbieding voor de A8 voorbijkomen, dan is het een prima keuze. De waterdichte bouwkwaliteit, scherm en specificaties vallen erg positief op. Ook de accuduur en camera zijn acceptabel. Alleen heeft Android een update en een bezem nodig.

De Samsung Galaxy A8 is een heel degelijk toestel. Hij ziet en voelt premium op het eerste gezicht. De kleuren van AMOLED-scherm zien er prachtig uit. In het gebruik ben ik erg tevreden over dit toestel. Hij voelt snel aan en ook de behuizing voelt meer premium dan midrange aan. De camera is ook uitstekend. Voor mensen die een nieuwe Samsung-telefoon zoeken en die nog een tijdje van beveiligingsupdates voorzien willen worden is dit toestel een prima keuze.

Al vind ik het een mooi toestel, ik had toch ietsje meer van het uiterlijk verwacht. Zoals vaker, is het innerlijk ook niet onbelangrijk. Hij voelt snel aan en ik kan zo op het eerste zicht niet merken dat hij langzamer reageert dan mijn Galaxy S8, wat wel het geval zou moeten zijn. Hij maakt mooie foto's dat is zeker.
