I received the Razr Plus 2024 and the Razr 2024 together, and I used the Razr Plus as my only smartphone for work purposes. I also used the phone as a primary personal phone: controlling my smart home devices, playing games, and managing my social life. I tested the durability of the phone thoroughly. Every time I opened and closed the phone I did so with deliberate force. I used the phone in the bathtub, and washed it in the sink. I dropped it a few times onto the pavement. It still looks just fine. To test the AI features, I used a standard prompt list that I always use with AI image-generation tools to prove that they resort to common stereotypes.

Of course, no phone is perfect, and the Razr Plus 2024 may not be enticing to everyone, especially after swapping the ultrawide camera for a telephoto lens. However, if that doesn't bother you, I feel like many of my biggest gripes can (and likely will) be addressed with some software updates. Last year’s Razr Plus was one of my personal favorite smartphones, though my recommendation of it came with some caveats. As much as I enjoyed using it, I also recognized that it had numerous shortcomings. Its cameras were disappointing, its battery life was lacking, and the hinge trailed behind the competition. I was OK looking past those things, but if someone asked me which folding flip phone they should buy, I’d reluctantly recommend the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 retains the fun and charm of its predecessor while improving upon it in virtually every way. The hinge feels better and more reliable. The cover display is larger. Camera quality is significantly improved. Battery life is longer. Charging speeds are faster.

90% I reviewed the Motorola Razr Plus 2024. It’s one of the best folding phones I’ve ever used

Last year’s Razr Plus was one of my personal favorite smartphones, though my recommendation of it came with some caveats. As much as I enjoyed using it, I also recognized that it had numerous shortcomings. Its cameras were disappointing, its battery life was lacking, and the hinge trailed behind the competition. I was OK looking past those things, but if someone asked me which folding flip phone they should buy, I’d reluctantly recommend the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 retains the fun and charm of its predecessor while improving upon it in virtually every way. The hinge feels better and more reliable. The cover display is larger. Camera quality is significantly improved. Battery life is longer. Charging speeds are faster.

I'll say this without qualm: the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is easily the best flip phone you can buy in 2024, without exception. It's nicely upgraded compared to its predecessor and has the biggest and most usable cover display too. So why not a full-marks score? Ultimately the compromises of any flip phone don't quite outweigh the benefit of a flagship for me. Until some major breakthrough is made to negate folding displays' crease visibility, and coatings created to completely reject fingerprint smears, there are always going to be minor niggles.

The Moto is without competition in its market segment when it comes to charging speed, its displays are likely the best in its class, and its speakers are better than most (foldables or otherwise). The software implementation on the cover screen is one 2x button in the camera UI short of perfection, and Hello UI is easy to like in its entirety as well. Motorola is taking a bit of gamble with the camera setup - or is it a calculated strategy?

If you're interested in the foldable form factor, the lower priced 2024 Motorola Razr is a safe bet. At $700, it has a big external screen and is significantly more affordable than the $1,000 Razr+ and even more so compared to the $1,100 Galaxy Z Flip 6, though the Razr+ is currently discounted to $899 on Amazon. It's also competitive with non-folding phones in its price range.

Motorola is setting a new benchmark for all foldable phones this year with the Razr (2024). For a foldable phone priced at $699, it receives a much more satisfying upgrade in my opinion than the pricier Razr Plus 2024 — complete with a new outer screen that expands its functionality, an attractive design with better water resistance, and an improved camera performance. Sure, it’s missing out on the Moto AI features that will eventually make their way to the Razr Plus 2024, but the savings it has over it and other foldable phones makes it attractive. Best of all, I cannot stress enough about how it sets a benchmark because of its price. You won’t find any other foldable phone that offers better value than this. I know that software support could be better, but its cheaper price point paired with its laundry list of excellent features make it a solid option.

It's no exaggeration to call the new Razr two phones in one: a high-end Android flagship and a tiny minimalist phone, blended into a single foldable that reminds us that, oh right: technology can be (should be) fun!

With all that out of the way, it certainly sounds like the Motorola Razr (2024) is the best thing since sliced bread, at least if you can live without a few early AI features. Either way, the fact is that both the Motorola Razr Plus and the regular ol’ Razr are excellent this year, and both look capable of beating out Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6, which has barely changed since the Flip 5. As a Razr Plus fanboy, I expected to love Motorola’s top flip phone, but I’m finding the vanilla Razr is far easier to recommend, and I’d dare to call it the best value we’ve seen from a foldable phone available in the US.

The 2024 Motorola Razr is a fine folding phone that sacrifices performance to reach a lower price. In its favor, it has outstanding battery life, a playful and flexible design, excellent inner and outer screens, and capable software from Motorola. We wish the performance were quicker and the cameras were sharper, but for $700, the Razr is a good entry point to folding phones. Upgrading to the Razr+ for $300 more gets you much faster performance, a larger external screen, and a more useful zoom camera. At that price, it's also worth considering the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, especially if you use other Samsung devices.

If you're focused on power and performance above all else, you can find much better deals than the new Motorola Razr for $700. The OnePlus 12R and the Pixel 8a are significantly cheaper, and even Google's flagship Pixel 8 Pro is routinely on sale for just $50 more than this device. But if you're interested in a foldable, you probably aren't seeking the best specs or impressive cameras. Frankly, this is a pretty solid midrange phone built into a flip phone chassis, and that's really all it needs to be. It's a novelty, sure, but whether you're interested in the smaller folded form factor or you find this sort of device fashionable, it's pretty great to see a clamshell phone as good as this one available for just $700 — and that's before Motorola's inevitable sales. While I think most Android Police readers would be better served by the $1,000 Razr+, if you're interested in picking up a foldable without breaking the bank, this new Razr might be the way to go.

It looks like the Motorola Razr (2024) will be a pretty cool upgrade to last year's Razr. Just adding that 3.6-inch screen but keeping the price at $700 already sounds like a gamechanger. That said, if you do own a Razr (2023) — you're fine. However, people that are new to the foldable space and don't feel like spending $1k on the new concept may find this device has enough to hook them in and keep them as Moto fans. Right now, we hope the camera gets some love since the Razr (2023) was lacking in that area.

Motorola:

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Qualcomm Adreno 735: Grafische chip voor smartphones en tablets, geïntegreerd in de Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC.

De meeste niet-veeleisende huidige games kunnen vloeiend draaien. Wees voorbereid op verminderde grafische weergave door lage detailinstellingen en lage resoluties. Toch verschaffen deze kaarten voldoende prestatie voor kantoor taken en video bekijken (niet voor HD videos).

ARM Mali-G615 MP2: Grafische chip voor smartphones in het middensegment met 2 van de 6 mogelijke kernen. Gebaseerd op de vierde generatie Valhall-architectuur. Biedt schaduw met variabele snelheid.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 8s Gen 3: High-end SoC (System on a Chip) voor smartphones die in 2024 werd geïntroduceerd. Het bevat onder andere een snelle Cortex-X4 "Prime Core" tot 3 GHz en 4 extra snelle Cortex-A720 kernen van 2,8 GHz. Om stroom te besparen zijn er ook 3 extra ARM Cortex-A520 kernen met 2,3 GHz geïnstalleerd. Een 5G-modem, WiFi 7 en een aanzienlijk snellere AI-engine zijn geïntegreerd.

Mediatek :

Dimensity 7300: De Dimensity 7300 is een mid-range processor met een geïntegreerde 5G-modem. De CPU bevat vier ARM Cortex-A78 kernen tot 2,5 GHz en vier Cortex-A55 power kernen tot 2 GHz. De SoC is vervaardigd met behulp van het moderne 4nm-proces.

6.90: Dit schermformaat bevindt zich op de grens tussen tablets en smartphones. De meeste tablets hebben grotere schermdiagonalen maar er zijn ook heel wat smartphones met een dergelijk groot scherm.
