A 16-inch laptop is a desktop-PC alternative (commonly called a desktop replacement) by definition, so we've always been bemused by 16-inch convertibles: They're too bulky and heavy for use as tablets, so they spend most of their time in laptop mode, perhaps occasionally propped up for a presentation or folded flat on a desk for marking up a document with a stylus. Lenovo's Yoga 7i 16 Gen 9 (starts at $818.10; $899.99 as tested) is a big-screen 2-in-1 that updates last year's model with Intel's new Core Ultra silicon under the hood and Microsoft's new Copilot key on the keyboard. It's about as fine as an affordable large convertible gets, but it's more of a niche player than a mainstream option.

Lenovo has put together a curious package in the 16-inch Yoga 7i (16IML9). It’s a well built piece of hardware, but it’s not built around great parts. With a lackluster display and unsatisfying keyboard, the ways you’ll actually interact with the laptop don’t meet the same standard of quality that the chassis brings to the table. You’ll still find a large footprint for productivity in the 16-inch display, and you won’t suffer from an overly heavy machine. Performance is decent for office tasks, and the battery life is more than respectable in that scenario. Having the option to use a keyboard and trackpad, a touchscreen, or a stylus also delivers flexibility that may benefit users with a variety of workflows who want one device to help with all of them. There are better laptops to go for if you have more straightforward computing needs, but if your work calls for Lenovo’s flipping trick, the Yoga 7i is a fairly sensible option at $900.

Intel Graphics 4-Core: Geïntegreerde grafische kaart gebaseerd op de Xe LPG-architectuur (vergelijkbaar met de speciale Arc GPU's, maar met de nadruk op efficiëntie). Biedt 4 Xe-kernen (64 Xe vector-engines) en 4 ray-tracing-eenheden.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Ultra 5 125U: Een lagere middenklasse Meteor Lake-chip die in december 2023 zijn debuut maakte. Deze Core Ultra-processor van de 1e generatie vervangt de Core-processors van de 13e generatie; hij beschikt over 12 kernen (2 + 8 + 2) en 14 threads. De Performance cores, waarvan er 2 zijn, draaien op maximaal 4,3 GHz, terwijl de Efficient cores, waarvan er 10 zijn (8 hoofdkernen plus 2 extra in het Low Power Island) op maximaal 3,6 GHz draaien. De 4-core Intel Arc Graphics, die net uit de oven komt, dient als geïntegreerde grafische adapter - deze draait op maximaal 1,85 GHz - en er is ook een groot aantal andere gloednieuwe technologieën beschikbaar, waaronder de geïntegreerde AI Boost NPU met twee Gen 3 engines voor hardware AI-werklastversnelling. Het basisverbruik van deze laptopprocessor is 15 W, waarbij 57 W het door Intel aanbevolen maximale Turbo-verbruik is.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" uit de Engelse legende, novo (Latijn voor nieuw) werd in 1984 opgericht als Chinees handelsbedrijf in computers. In 2004 was het bedrijf de grootste laptopfabrikant in China en, na de overname van IBM's pc-divisie in 2005, de op drie na grootste ter wereld. Naast desktops en notebooks produceert het bedrijf monitoren, projectors, servers, enz. en is het gespecialiseerd in de ontwikkeling, productie en marketing van consumentenelektronica, pc's, software, bedrijfsoplossingen en aanverwante diensten.

In 2016 stond het bedrijf op de eerste plaats in de wereld wat betreft computerverkopen. Dit was in 2023 nog steeds het geval, met een wereldwijd marktaandeel van ongeveer 23%. Belangrijke productlijnen zijn Thinkpad, Legion en Ideapad.

In 2011 verwierf het een meerderheidsbelang in Medion AG, een Europese fabrikant van computerhardware. In 2014 werd Motorola Mobility gekocht, wat Lenovo een boost gaf op de smartphonemarkt.
