Beide nieuwe Ryzen 3-processors, de 1300X en de 1200, zijn zonder enige twijfel erg betaalbare quad-core-CPU's. AMD's grootste sterkte is dat Intel helemaal geen quad-core-processors in de aanbieding heeft in deze prijsklasse. Volgens ons zijn vier fysieke cores een minimum voor PC's in 2017, niet alleen omwille van de grotere duurzaamheid op lange termijn, maar ook omdat je er vandaag al baat bij hebt. In combinatie met een goedkoop B350-moederbord kunnen beide CPU's gemakkelijk overklokt worden dankzij de ontgrendelde multipliers.
Wie een krap budget heeft, kan de G4560 (Intel) ook in overweging nemen, al is AMD's AM4-platform veel meer future-proof. Door het ontbreken van geïntegreerde GPU zijn Zen-gebaseerde CPU's misschien niet de beste keuze voor een zuivere office/business- of multimedia-machine. De extra grafische kaart die je nodig hebt in dit geval maakt de resulterende PC duurder dan een vergelijkbare Intel-variant.
In de zeer nabije toekomst zullen AMD's mobile Ryzen APU's, die Zen-CPU en Vega-GPU combineren, dit probleem aanpakken voor laptopgebruikers, terwijl desktop-APU's er volgend jaar aankomen.
