De Intel Core i7-9700K is een krachtige, indrukwekkende CPU. De CPU is niet zo krachtig als de Core i9-9900K, maar de octa-core CPU werkt tot 4.9 GHz op een enkele core en 4.6 GHz voor alle cores. We raden wel aan om een fatsoenlijke koeler aan te schaffen omdat de Core i7-9700K nogal heet werd in onze tests.
In de meeste scenario's scoort de Core i7-9700K vergelijkbaar met de Core i9-9900K. De extra threads die deze laatste biedt maken in games weinig verschil, maar in verscheidene multi-threaded applicaties is dat vermoedelijk een ander verhaal. De Core i7-9700K heeft ook een hogere IPC (instructies per kloktik) dan AMD APU's. Threadripper APU's met minimaal 12 cores presteren echter consistent beter dan de Core i7-9700K in multi-threaded applicaties en benchmarks.
Samengevat is de Core i7-9700K de op-een-na-snelste Intel octa-core processor, na de Core i9-9900K. De Core i7-9700K presteert beter dan zijn voorganger in games en levert solide game prestaties voor de komende jaren.
Helaas voor Intel bieden AMD APU's nog steeds meer waar voor je geld. De Intel Core i7-9700K kost momenteel ongeveer € 419, wat ongeveer € 100 meer is dan de Ryzen 7 2700X. De Core i7-9700K presteert ook minder goed in multi-core toepassingen, al is de CPU wel sneller dan de Ryzen 7 2700X in single-threaded toepassingen, zoals de meeste games.
Verder raden we de Core i7-9700K aan boven zijn duurdere broer met name door het verschil in prijs. De prestaties tussen de twee CPU's is minimaal en met het bespaarde geld kun je een krachtiger GPU aanschaffen wat onderaan de streep een betere game-ervaring zal geven.
De Intel Core i7-9700K is de logische keuze van de nieuwe 9e generatie Core desktop processoren. De CPU levert praktisch dezelfde prestaties als de Core i9-9900K, maar voor een aanzienlijk lagere prijs. En in plaats daarvan koop je liever een betere GPU.
Een ander gevolg van de hoge kloksnelheid en IPC is het stroomverbruik. De Core i7-9700K verbruikt aanzienlijk meer dan zijn TDP, wat nog eens verder opgehoogd wordt wanneer de processor wordt overgeklokt. Al met al is de Core i7-9700K op standaardinstellingen al een fantastische desktop processor voor gamen, en we zien dan ook niet veel toegevoegde waarde in het overklokken van de processor.
