Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.1 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 49 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (20.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.165 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 71 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (32.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 200 Hz ≤ 55 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 200 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 55 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 200 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 53 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8715 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz waargenomen.

De ZBook Studio G3 vormt een klein mysterie voor ons. HP levert in bepaalde opzichten een fantastisch product, terwijl het op andere vlakken teleurstelt. Onze algehele indruk van het ambitieuze werkstation is helaas negatief. Dit komt met name door de testresultaten van zowel de emissies als de batterijlevensduur. De oppervlakken haal alarmerend hoge temperaturen die brandwonden kunnen veroorzaken, zelfs bij normale belasting. Ook het gedrag van de ventilatoren is ergerlijk,  omdat beide ventilatoren onafhankelijk van elkaar werken, erg luid zijn en erg pulseren. De praktische batterijlevensduur van minder dan 4 uur is ook moeilijk te rechtvaardigen voor een apparaat dat erg draagbaar is. Daarnaast zijn er nog enkele kleinere minpunten, zoals het ontbreken van een SmartCard-lezer en WWAN-module.

De ZBook Studio is een ambitieus project. We krijgen erg veel prestaties in een compact formaat, maar we krijgen daar ook extreem hoge temperaturen en hinderlijke ventilatoren voor terug. Dit zou niet het geval moeten zijn voor een adviesprijs van ongeveer 3800 EUR (~$4237).

De ZBook Studio overtuigd in vele opzichten: we krijgen erg veel prestaties in een fantastische behuizing, gecombineerd met een fantastisch 4K beeldscherm en goede invoerapparaten. We vinden de beperkingen echter nog steeds te groot. En dan is er ook nog de extreem hoge prijs van ongeveer 3800 EUR (~$4237) voor ons testmodel, wat eigenlijk niet te rechtvaardigen is gezien de genoemde minpunten. De BIOS updates hebben tot nog toe de situatie niet kunnen verbeteren, maar we hopen dat HP op zijn minst de hinderlijke ventilatoren kan verbeteren met een toekomstige update. Op dit moment hebben grotere werkstations het voordeel op gebied van emissies en kunnen ook nog eens uitgerust worden met nog krachtiger componenten.
