Have you ever borrowed something and felt like not giving it back? Well, this is one of those occasions for us. Apart from the notebook’s slight weight issue and missing optical drive, the 5310m seems like the perfect step up from the mini netbook models. Frankly speaking, its design and fast system boot-up alone are enough to make anybody fall head over heels with it. If you have the dough (RM3,299 to be exact) and are seriously looking for the perfect travelling companion, you should really give the ProBook 5310m a serious look.

Overall, the ProBook 5310m is sort of a big deal. HP totally hit the mark with the hardware and they did it for $899, a reasonable price for a system that performs as well as this one and still manages 6+ hours of battery life. If you don’t need an optical drive or discrete graphics this is a computer to keep your eye on, whether you need it for business or not. The biggest problem is that it’s crammed in the stack of ProBooks, which tend to be pretty average, so not many buyers will probably ever happen upon it.

The HP Probook 5310 ($899 direct) is evidence that small businesses are ready to embrace modern times. Conservative IT managers, particularly in large enterprises, have yet to realize how easy it is to stifle innovation by demanding so many hardware functions. Sometimes, less means more. The 5310m sheds the optical drive and VGA port, which I consider playing-it-safe parts that would have otherwise made the design thick and conservative-looking. The HP ProBook 5310m is one of the sleekest, thinnest SMB laptops in the market, and you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Even though a 5 hour battery life that keeps it from being an all day computer the other options and performance do a good job of compensating; especially when you consider the price and small form factor. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Deze onboard (gedeeld geheugen) GPU is geïntegreerd in de GM45-chipset (Montevina). Door twee extra shaders en een hogere kloksnelheid is hij veel sneller dan de oude GMA X3100. Toch is hij niet aan te raden voor gamers (DirectX 10 games niet speelbaar of alleen met zeer lage grafische instellingen). De geïntegreerde grafische video processor kan de CPU helpen bij het decoderen van HD video’s, om zo het vloeiend afspelen van bijvoorbeeld Blu-Ray films toch mogelijk te maken met een trage CPU.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.

SP9300: Stroom efficiënte Core 2 Duo CPU met 6 MB level 2 cache en alle Penryn functionaliteiten (zoals VT-x).

13.30": Dit schermformaat wordt vooral gebruikt voor subnotebooks, ultrabooks en convertibles. Voor alle drie types is dit formaat redelijk groot. De grootste verscheidenheid aan subnotebooks wordt vertegenwoordigd in deze klasse.
