The 48W battery delivers an acceptable 3 hours of WiFi-surfing, which is a fair compromise for such a capable laptop. And that’s probably the only weak point for the Dell Inspiron 15R SE – otherwise it offers a fantastic display, first-rate input options, good port selection, impressive audio, and is well-suited for even moderate video-editing suites… priced at about $1000.

The $1,099 Dell Inspiron 15R SE has a lot of things to offer multimedia mavens, including an attractive design, a glare-free full HD screen and plenty of audio oomph. While this notebook doesn't offer best-in-class performance, its third-generation Intel Core i7 processor and AMD GPU can handle any workload along with the most popular games.

Aside from the looks, the battery life is the only area of concern, and even then 5hrs 27mins in our light-use test isn’t a complete disaster. This adds up to a laptop that, while not pretty, will certainly get the job done. However, for a little more elegance, better all-round build quality and a little less cash, you can buy the Asus N56VM - and that's why it's still our favourite.

The Dell Inspiron 15R SE reminds us of the fat, ugly kid in the class. Y'know, the one that had all the brains too? We may not find the 15R SE the laptop that we're most drawn to, but boy does it deliver on the power front considering the price. Battery life is a letdown, but otherwise this affordable laptop could make an ideal desktop replacement or all-round family computer. It will handle almost anything you throw at it and, over time, you will even grow to love it thanks to what's on its inside. And that's what counts.

The Dell New! Inspiron 15R Special Edition starts at a price tag of Rs.50,490, which is the cost of the model we reviewed. It feels a little bit expensive and perhaps a higher resolution screen would have balanced it out a bit. If you don’t care about the Skullcandy branded speakers then the standard version of the 15R is also a very good choice as you get a similar configuration (Core i5-3210M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, AMD HD 7670M) for just Rs.42,500. A more powerful 15-incher would be the Asus K55VM for a few grand more. If you’re looking for something more portable without sacrificing performance then we recommend you look at the Sony VAIO SVE series. The 15R Special Edition is well built notebook but the heavy weight and average battery life is a bit of a put off.

The Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition certainly isn't the slimmest or lightest 15-inch laptop you could buy. It is packed to the gills with powerful components though, making it well suited to a family with higher technological demands than basic web browsing. The Full HD screen and Blu-ray drive also make it ideal for movie lovers.

AMD Radeon HD 7730M: Performance GPU gebaseerd op de GCN architectuur (28nm).

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

3612QM: Een Ivy Bridge quad-core processor geklokt op 2.1 GHz met Turbo Boost ondersteuning tot 3.1 GHz. Heeft een geïntegreerde HD Graphics 4000 GPU die draait op 650-1100 MHz op een dual channel DDR3 memory controller. De specialiteit van de Core i7-3612QM is zijn lage TDP van 35 Watt vergeleken met de 45 Watt van de andere Ivy Bridge quad-core CPU's (zoals de 3610QM).
