Hoewel de ZenBook Duo 14 UX482 door zijn voorgangers moeilijk revolutionair te noemen is, blijft het een heel unieke laptop. Het tweede scherm zorgt ervoor dat je onderweg daadwerkelijk productiever bezig kunt zijn. Daarbij is het fijn dat de ScreenPad Plus als een normaal scherm door Windows herkent wordt waardoor je niet afhankelijk bent van specifieke ondersteuning. De behuizing en klapconstructie zijn stevig, je moet alleen oppassen dat er niks tussen het schermpje zit als je de laptop weer dichtklapt. Het voordeel van de kieren is de betere koeling: de prestaties zijn uitstekend terwijl het volume van de ventilator bescheiden blijft. Het belangrijkste compromis is het enigszins krappe toetsenbord en vooral de onhandige plek van de te kleine touchpad. Je kunt natuurlijk de bijgeleverde stylus gebruiken, maar voor creatieve werkzaamheden is een losse muis sowieso wel handig.

Tot nu toe zijn er weinig fabrikanten die een dergelijke laptop op de markt hebben gebracht, op ASUS na. In deze review kijken we naar de Zenbook Duo, met 14"-scherm, die compacter is dan de Zenbook Pro Duo, met 15"-scherm. De Pro Duo krijgt voorlopig nog geen update, maar bij de gewone Zenbook Duo is aan de buitenkant duidelijk te zien dat het om een nieuw model gaat.

De Zenbook Duo is ASUS' tweede generatie laptop met een ingebouwd tweede scherm. Dat tweede scherm is verbeterd doordat het omhoogklapt, maar heeft helaas matige kijkhoeken. Er is ook software toegevoegd, maar die is beperkt tot vier Adobe-applicaties en werkt niet altijd even goed. De hardware is vlot, zeker in 'prestatiemodus', en het pakket is compleet met een stylus en een hoes. De plaatsing van de touchpad maakt de laptop moeilijk te gebruiken voor linkshandigen en het toetsenbord tikt onprettig door het ontwerp van de behuizing. De accuduur tijdens browsen is ruim dertien uur als je alleen het primaire paneel gebruikt, of negen uur met beide schermen actief.

Simply put, the Asus Zenbook Duo 2024 is a game-changer for laptops in general. It gets dual 14-inch OLED touch displays, good speakers, amazing battery life, and is powerful for most productivity and creative tasks. If you're a journalist, a writer, engineer, programmer, researcher, or an artist, then this is an excellent tool for you. Asus also claims that it is quite durable, but this is something we'll have to test in the long run. For now, if you're looking at a portable productivity powerhouse that's compact and light enough to be carried anywhere, then look no further. I'm going to have trouble using a regular laptop after my time with the Asus Zenbook Duo 2024, it's that good.

What I like most about the ZenBook Duo 14 is that you really can't tell from the outside of the laptop what you'll see when you lift the lid. Despite opening and closing it countless times at this point, I still get a kick out of seeing its secondary 12.6-inch touchscreen rise from above the keyboard to meet the bottom of the main 14-inch display. One screen flows into the next and, with the help of Asus' software, that slim display becomes more useful than you might think (and certainly more useful than Apple's Touch Bar). What's impressive about the ZenBook Duo UX482 is how it manages to cram two displays and high-end specifications (for an ultraportable notebook, at least) into a body that's still really quite portable. ASUS hasn't shared availability or pricing details yet. But seeing that the last ZenBook Duo had a launch price of S$2,198, we fully expect this new model to cost more than that.
