Het gebrek aan een echt nieuw en modern design op een prijzige tablet is jammer, net als het gebrek aan stereo speakers voor media-fanaten. De nieuwe Mini heeft echter een enorm krachtige processor aan boord waarmee je de komende jaren geen kracht te kort komt, en de komst van een hoogwaardig gelamineerd scherm naar de Mini maakt dit simpelweg de meest premium compacte tablet die er bestaat. De nieuwe iPad Air zal dankzij zijn extra schermruimte interessanter zijn voor de meeste doeleinden, maar als je persé een kleintje zoekt is dit een goede koop.

De nieuwste Apple iPad Mini heeft een snellere processor. Hierdoor draaien apps soepeler. Nieuw is de ondersteuning voor de Apple Pencil, maar die wordt niet meegeleverd. Dit alles kost minimaal €460 (€560 inclusief Pencil) en dan heb je de meest uitgeklede versie. Gelukkig zit daar met 64 GB behoorlijk wat opslagruimte bij. Het design is niet vernieuwd en dat vinden wij een gemiste kans. De iPad Mini is vooral een mooie upgrade voor de huidige gebruikers en fans van de iPad Mini-serie. Anderen doen zeker geen miskoop. Het is een goede tablet met een 7,9 inch-scherm, maar in 2019 is de smartphone (met gemiddeld een steeds groter scherm) een perfect alternatief en waarschijnlijk al in bezit.

Apple A12 Bionic GPU:

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

7.90": Dit schermformaat bevindt zich op de grens tussen tablets en smartphones. De meeste tablets hebben grotere schermdiagonalen maar er zijn ook heel wat smartphones met een dergelijk groot scherm.

Grote schermformaten laten hogere resoluties toe. Details zoals letters zijn groter. Anderzijds is het energieverbruik lager bij kleine schermdiagonalen en de toestellen zijn kleiner, lichter en goedkoper.
