De AMD Ryzen 7 7840U is een snelle high-end laptopprocessor uit de Phoenix-serie en het snelste model uit de U-serie. Hij biedt 8 cores (octa core) op basis van de Zen 4-architectuur die hyperthreading (16 threads) ondersteunt. De cores klokken van 3,3 (basis) tot 5,1 GHz (single core boost). De processor bevat 8 MB L2-cache en 16 MB L3-cache.
De prestaties van de R7 7840U liggen, afhankelijk van de werkbelasting, slechts iets onder die van de Ryzen 7 7840HS (hogere basiskloksnelheid en TDP). Vergeleken met de vorige generatie Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U is de 7840U duidelijk sneller dankzij de Zen 4 architectuur en hogere kloksnelheden.
De Phoenix-serie maakt gebruik van een enkel monolithisch ontwerp (in tegenstelling tot het chiplet-ontwerp van de 7045HX-serie) en is vervaardigd in het moderne 4nm-proces bij TSMC. De TDP kan geconfigureerd worden tussen 15 en 30 Watt (standaard 28 Watt).
